Applications are invited for the post of Associate Professor (or Professorship) of Theoretical Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry (central Oxford). The successful candidate will also be appointed to a Tutorial Fellowship at St Hilda’s College under arrangements described in the Job Description and Person Specification. This position is with effect from September 2019 and is permanent upon completion of a successful review. The review is conducted during the first 5 years.

The combined University and College salary will be according to experience on a scale from £47,263 - £63,463 p.a. plus substantial additional benefits, including a college housing allowance (currently £8,421 p.a.). A further allowance of £2,754 p.a. would be payable upon award of Full Professor title.

We intend to appoint a candidate with research interests in theoretical chemistry. Preference may be given to applications in the areas of electronic structure method development post mean-field.

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in theoretical chemistry or a related field and have a proven track record of high-quality research and publication at an internationally excellent standard, along with the ability, or potential, to attract external funding to maintain an active research program.

The postholder will be required to engage in original research within the field of theoretical chemistry which enhances and extends the current activity in the department; to collaborate with existing staff; to secure research funding, and to carry out teaching and administration at undergraduate and graduate level. The successful candidate will also teach physical chemistry to undergraduates at St Hilda’s College, as well as participate in the administration of the subject and in the wider life of the College.

The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QZ and St Hilda’s College, Cowley Place, Oxford, OX4 1DY.
