Lecturer/Associate Professor in Railway Engineering

Are you an influential academic with the ability to carry out teaching and research in railway engineering and related topics? Do you have an excellent research record, success obtaining funding and the vision and drive to tackle new challenges? Are you passionate about delivering an exceptional student experience in a research-intensive Russell Group University?

As a Lecturer/Associate Professor, you will carry out research, teaching and management within the School, Faculty and University. You will also contribute to academic leadership in the field of Railway Engineering, while developing and delivering railway engineering related modules for the Civil Engineering with Transport programme at University of Leeds , and the joint programme at Southwest Jiaotong University , Chengdu, China.

HS2 is the UK’s ambitious, new, £60Bn high speed rail project, which will significantly improve Leeds’ connectivity with the rest of the UK. Therefore, the Leeds City Region is getting HS2-ready, integrating High Speed Rail in its plans for economic growth. HS2 is drawing heavily on the University's strengths in innovation and enterprise across a number of areas of science, technology and engineering.

The University has a large breadth of railway research expertise and is currently developing a new Institute for High Speed Railway and Systems Integration. It has recently appointed several new staff, including a Chair in High Speed Rail Engineering, Professor Peter Woodward, to lead this new institute. Highlights of the new institute include:

  • Significant investment to develop the world’s most advanced railway track testing facility

  • Significant investment to develop the world’s most advanced railway vehicle testing facility

The institute will complement other university-based research centres in the UK and respond to industry demand for undergraduate and postgraduate skills in railway engineering and systems, and other related areas. The post of Lecturer/Associate Professor in Railway Engineering has been created to accelerate the growth of the Institute, by raising its international research and education profile.
