Assistant or Associate Professor of Music

£36261 to £61618 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

Assistant Professor: £36,261 - £48,677 per annum

Associate Professor: £51,630 - £61,618 per annum

Applications are invited for the above post based at the University of Nottingham, University Park Campus.

The Department of Music is one of the UK’s leading centres for teaching and research in Music. The appointee to this post will play a central role in continuing to develop the Department’s provision in response to changing student demand. The successful candidate will have expertise in any area of musicology, broadly defined, which will enhance the department’s existing curriculum and research strengths. They will be expected to teach in at least two areas of musicology, to conduct internationally excellent research (involving the production of research outputs and impact case studies for forthcoming national research assessment exercises), to attract external research funding, to supervise postgraduate research students, and to contribute to departmental administration. In addition to making a significant leadership impact in research and teaching, the role holder will participate in the Department’s organisation, management and strategic planning and will also contribute to the University’s strategic planning processes. They will act as principal investigator on major research projects in musicology, take responsibility for the quality of the design of Music courses/programmes and contribute generally to the development of teaching and assessment in the Department.

Candidates should have a PhD in relevant subject area.

To be considered for the Associate Professor you must have an extensive track record of world-leading published research, development and delivery of teaching units, and demonstrate a strong understanding of the UK Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) and Research Excellence Framework (REF).

To be considered for the Assistant Professor you must demonstrate experience and achievement in musicology reflected in an emerging national and international reputation, evidence of a promising publication record and success in delivering teaching within an agreed quality framework.
