Precision Imaging Beacon Senior Faculty Positions
As part of its ambitious Research Strategy, the University is making a significant investment in its research capacity and capability through six multi-million pound cross-disciplinary Beacons of Excellence including the Precision Imaging Beacon. The Precision Imaging Beacon undertakes a coherent and integrated portfolio of research, doctoral training and knowledge exchange activities in translational and clinical imaging to provide the next generation diagnostics tools needed for precision medicine. Our mission is to deliver world class research to help address the challenge of diseases that have the biggest impact on our societies and lack adequate treatment. Our advances in imaging for precision medicine offer the prospect of new understanding and revolutionary treatments to deliver personalised care.
We seek to recruit top scientists who are nationally and internationally recognised in their fields and share our mission and ambition to extend critical mass and excellence in precision imaging. Candidates will be appointed at Chair or Associate Professorship level depending on experience.
The University of Nottingham is the home of MRI. This pioneering invention continues to transform lives and medical care across the world. MRI, which grew from an idea in the Physics department 40 years ago, is now used in more than 60 million clinical examinations around the world every year.
We have an internationally leading position in biomedical imaging research, and our advances in medical imaging are driving the development of personalised therapies in mental health and other chronic diseases. We focus on the discovery and translation of new imaging tools, which will transform non-invasive diagnosis, improve the outcomes for patients, and better evaluate the success of medical interventions. Our researchers have expertise across Precision Imaging – from mathematics and computer science, to physics and medicine.
We are proactively engaging within and across Faculties, in particular the Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre , the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre , the Institute of Mental Health , Health Data Research UK , MRC Arthritis Research UK Centre for Musculoskeletal Ageing Research , Arthritis Research UK Pain Centre , Arthritis Research UK centre for sport, exercise and Osteoarthritis . We have clearly identified objectives that we must deliver against in order to release funding to enable on-going delivery. As the role holder, you will advance one of the following disciplines
through research, knowledge transfer and teaching. You will also provide academic leadership to colleagues, research staff and students.
Candidates should hold a degree and PhD or equivalent in your chosen field of study, or a closely related field, have a strong publication record and International scientific reputation evidenced through a track record of high quality publications and demonstrated success in obtaining sources of funding.
These permanent roles are available immediately; the main focus will be on performing high quality research within the Beacon. To recognise this, we anticipate that in the first 3-5 years, you will undertake original research within the Beacon, along with a minor (20%) contribution to other activities in the relevant School. The level of appointment will be determined by your breadth and depth of experience, research reputation, qualifications and skill level in relation to the role criteria.
To apply, please click the link below and complete the short form application along with an attached CV and identify 6 papers you consider your best. This will be considered as an expression of interest, which once reviewed, shortlisted candidates will be contacted to complete a full application form.
To support the formation of a world-leading research community in precision imaging, we also have opportunities early career researchers from any discipline that have recently completed their doctoral studies, click here for more information. We also run a tenure-track Beacon fellowship once a year; follow this link for additional details.
