The Blavatnik School of Government aspires to be one of the world’s leading academic institutions for research, teaching, and public leadership development which improves government. The professorial post in public policy (security) is intended to bring to the School an academic with a globally recognized record of excellence in research, teaching, and public engagement in matters affecting security. The post is permanent (i.e., with tenure).

The School seeks to appoint an outstanding teacher, accomplished research scholar and committed institution builder, whose work advances understanding and practice of issues related to public security, be this terrorism, cybersecurity, intelligence, violent conflict within or among states, military studies, nuclear security, or policing.

The postholder will provide academic leadership in research in the field of security. S/he will conduct world-class research on public policy with emphasis on security (as defined above); and provide academic research leadership in this area. S/he will contribute to the development and delivery of the Master of Public Policy. The successful candidate will join a growing team of outstanding academics, researchers and support staff in this dynamic School, and will contribute to the overall development of the School’s profile as a world-leading provider of public policy education, training and research of the highest academic standard. The post is associated with Brasenose College with the expectation of election to a College Fellowship.

The ideal candidate will be a scholar of authority on public policy and security with a considerable international reputation; s/he will have a depth of knowledge on public policy and security to enable the development of innovation and new understanding in the field; have significant experience of developing research strategies and managing research projects; and an outstanding publication record as lead author in prestigious international journals and/or as author of books published by leading academic presses.
