This top-rated, internationally renowned Department is committed to supporting excellence in pharmacology research and teaching. The Pharmacology Group comprises a dynamic group of academics, researchers and PhD candidates. In the most recent Research Assessment Exercise, the University of Bath ranked in the top 3 of universities with a School of Pharmacy.

The Pharmacology Group is aligned with the newly established Drug & Target Discovery research theme and has a large portfolio of research activity associated with immune cell activation and inflammation as well as vascular pharmacology and neuropharmacology. We are looking for an outstanding academic who will provide a range of complementary expertise to the Pharmacology Group (with desired research skills in animal models of disease and/or understanding of molecular mechanisms of disease pathogenesis) and boost the Department’s research capabilities in the area of Drug and Target Discovery. Such research skills will also dovetail and synergise with the Medicines Design and Health & Clinical Research themes. Research in Drug and Target Discovery at Bath is underpinned by state of the art facilities for disease models, bioimaging within the Chemical Characterisation and Analysis Facility and the Microscopy and Analysis Suite , including an innovative advanced analysis and imaging under hypoxic conditions facility.

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be able to show evidence of, or potential for, significant success in securing and delivering on major grant funding, and will have established strong research networks and collaborations at national and international level. The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching of pharmacology to students on our MPharmacology and MPharmacy programmes, as well as our new MSc in Drug Discovery
