Duties and Responsibilities
UCL Qatar is an academic centre located in the Qatar Foundationís Education City, Doha, Qatar. It delivers 2 Master level degrees and a doctoral programme with a cultural heritage focus. The courses prepare students for a wide range of professional employment in Qatar, the region and internationally.
The Head of Professional Development and Outreach is a key middle management appointment in UCL Qatar. The post holder supports the UCL Operations Directorís delivery of agreed business objectives and outcomes through direct responsibility for the strategic planning and delivery of UCL Qatarís consultancy and Professional Development programme, and the organisationís community outreach activity.
For the Professional Development component this role includes: identifying consultancy opportunities for training and professional development of cultural heritage professionals, specifically but not exclusively in the fields of museology and library & information studies; maintaining existing networks and actively developing new opportunities for the academic education of cultural heritage professionals in Qatar and the wider Gulf region; successfully negotiating contracts, monitoring content and ensuring delivery of agreed education programmes, managing business performance and sustainability of the activity to UCL and agreed contractual standards.
Focused on operational delivery the post holder will be responsible for: the achieving effective collaboration with academic colleagues across UCL Qatar, the work of a dedicated position supporting the role, an operational budget and the delivery of contracted consultants, as appropriate.
This is a full time appointment until 31st October 2020.
The post holder will have a degree or equivalent qualification in archaeology, art, heritage or conservation, and a degree in education or qualification in adult learning. Membership of an appropriate professional body will be an advantage. The successful applicant will have experience of working in the museum/ heritage/libraries/archaeology sector and in the education sector, with substantial experience of assessing, designing, developing and delivering short courses for adults.
Staff management experience, including recruitment, performance management and staff development is also required.
Possessing an excellent command of English, both spoken and written, the successful candidate with have developed relationship management skills with the ability to negotiate and define contractual agreements. This will be enabled by an enterprising attitude and skills set, and the ability to create business cases quickly and accurately achieved by deploying outstanding organisational skills and ability to work to exacting deadlines.
The post holder will display strong self-motivation and a hands-on approach, an ability to identify and seize business opportunities and mitigating risks, and lead, motivate and develop a high performing team. Excellent communication skills, diplomacy and tact, will be blended with a developed sensitivity to cultural difference.
