The appointment of Head of School is for an initial period of four years with an underlying permanent professorial appointment.

For many decades, the School of Chemistry at Nottingham has acted as a world-leader in the field, thriving both as an environment for research and for teaching. With the completion of the GlaxoSmithKline Carbon Neutral Laboratory for Sustainable Chemistry, and the new state-of-the-art teaching laboratories, the infrastructure is present in order to see the School of Chemistry expand on a national and global stage. The opportunities at the School of Chemistry are manifold, including a thriving Business Partnership Unit, a highly successful research environment, and superlative teaching facilitates and student satisfaction levels. The incoming Head of School will therefore be extremely well placed to take the School into its next phase of growth, through the development and driving of innovative, interdisciplinary research and education programmes.

As a full Professor, the appointee will be expected to conduct their own programme of international research, including the regular production of high calibre research outputs in leading Chemistry journals; the provision of academic leadership, supervision and mentorship of junior faculty; the ability to secure a high volume of research grants from a range of sources; and the identification and energising of collaborative research activity within the School, across the University, and externally. Further, as Head of the School of Chemistry, the appointee will act as a proactive and engaged strategic leader for the School. They will be responsible for driving forward the development of the School through direct and collegial engagement with faculty members; through forging connections within the School and across the University; and through the oversight and energising of the School’s ambitious research and teaching priorities for the coming years.
