Innovation is the key

The Principal’s Teaching Awards Showcase (PTAS) gives staff a chance to see projects aimed at improving teaching and learning.

Using social media to enhance the student experience and a study into the influence of gender on academic achievement in physics are just two of the projects on display.

Research showcase

The biennial showcase, “Enquiry and Innovation in the Enhancement of Teaching & Learning at the University of Edinburgh”, will show the work of 18 research teams across the University.

Established in 2007, the PTAS encourages and supports activities that will make a significant contribution to the enhancement of learning and teaching at the University.

Visiting speakers

The 11 June event will feature a day of presentations and discussions in the Godfrey Thomson Hall, as well as three guest lectures from visiting academics.

Professor Paul Blackmore of King’s College London will look at the challenges of curriculum in the 21st century, and the implications of curriculum change on both academic and support staff.

Professor Glynis Cousin from the University of Wolverhampton will explore what can be learnt from researching student learning.

Professor Joelle Fanghanel from the University of West London will discuss the concept of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, and its benefits as a way to measure professional development in higher education teaching.

Networking event

The event will conclude with the ‘PTAS Café’, providing an opportunity for guests and presenters to mingle and discuss ideas from across the day.

All academic and student support staff are welcome to attend.
